Destin, Florida is located right on the panhandle of the state and sits along the Emerald Coast. This city is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and emerald green waters, as well as for the vast amount of fish in the area. Demographics

For as popular as Destin is for tourists, this city is rather small. According to the 2017 United States Census, 13,765 people reside in Destin. Approximately 16.7% of the population include individuals over the age of 65, while 17.2% of the population are those under the age of 18.

The majority of Destin residents (86.1% to be exact) are Caucasian, the Hispanic and Latino community make up 10.2% of the population, 2% are Asian, and 2.3% of residents are African American. Another 1.8% of the population are of two or more races.

Within Destin, roughly 13% of families speak another language other than English at home. Twenty-one percent of the population under age 65 do not have health insurance and 7.1% of people live below the poverty line. The median household income is $71,407.

Destin and Drug Abuse
